What is the aim of the Year 3 & 4 Maths Programme?
Objectives Include:
- Getting Year 4 pupils ready to sit the 11+ exam (when they get to Year 6)
- Preparing Year 4 pupils to cope and even excel when they arrive in Year 5 at school
- Ensuring Year 5 pupils plug any gaps in their knowledge of Key Stage 2 Maths
Topics include:
- Place value revision and extension: vocabulary of estimation and approximation; round to 10,000; calculate temperature across 0 degrees centigrade
- Multiplication and division: express a quotient as a fraction or decimal; rounding; four operations to solve word problems using money and measures; conversation of pound to foreign currency; mental strategies; long and short multiplication
- Fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion: relate fractions to division and decimals; express fractions as percentages; solve problems involving ratio and proportion
- Handling data: probabilities; problem solving by representing and interpreting data in tables, charts, graphs and diagrams; mode; range
- Puzzles and problem solving: generalise and predict
- Shape and space: reflective symmetry in regular polygons; translation
- Shape, space and measures: directions; plot co-ordinates, properties of shapes; use protractor; perimeters of rectangles and polygons
- Measures and problem solving: imperial units; timetables; find percentages
- Addition and subtraction: mental addition and subtraction using known number facts and place value; problem solving choosing appropriate number operation and calculation
- Properties of numbers and number sequences: predict outcome of sums and differences about odd or even numbers; find the factors of any number up to 100; explain formulae
