Pate’s is a selective state school, which was established over 400 years ago to provide free education to the people of Cheltenham and surrounding areas. Pate’s is required to operate in line with the Local Education Authority’s coordinated scheme for school admissions. Admission to the school has always been by competitive test. Places have always been offered to the children achieving the highest rank order scores in the admissions test.
