11+ Verbal Reasoning and 11+ Non-Verbal Reasoning

Non-verbal reasoning requires good spatial awareness. It is a skill that some children will have naturally. and others can learn by developing a disciplined and systematic approach, isolating each element of the sequence or pattern - using a process of elimination.

Besides using formal practice materials there are activities that can help to develop a child’s spatial awareness, visual ability and non-verbal reasoning skills such as jigsaws, model-making kits and visual logic games such as Sudoku.

Some of the strategies we use include:

  • grounding in the 21 question types in Verbal Reasoning
  • focus on the 8 question types in Non-Verbal Reasoning
  • explicit, systematic instruction
  • research-based methods
  • specially selected practice booklets

Children need at least 2 hours per week for 10 weeks, preparing for the tests. Practising at home or with a tutor depends on how confident you feel to help. Bear in mind, from your previous experience of helping with school work, whether or not your child is comfortable with you in this situation.

Look at the question below, the answer is provided - can you explain the logic behind it?

Why is the answer C?
