How to tell if registering your child for the 11+ Exams is the right choice for your child.

The 11+ exam season is here again, and you might be thinking of registering your child for the 11+ exams at some point, but are not sure of whether to do so. It is quite easy to get caught up in the frenzy, especially if others around you are in the middle of it. The important thing to note is that it is a journey and you would need to be quite sure before you and your child embark on it (you didn’t think you’d pack an academic bag and send your child in its way did you….?)

Through our experience, we have found that strong Entrance Exam candidates will usually have the following characteristics in common:

  • Children should generally be working above age-related expectations for their year group and in top ability groups at school.
  • They should have a high reading age, usually markedly higher than their chronological age. They should also be avid readers with a wide and varied vocabulary.
  • Children looking to have a great chance at passing the 11+ Entrance Tests, should be self-motivated, hard-working and be determined to achieve well, academically
  • They will be willing to practise regularly and readily complete their homework.

A decision would need to be made in time, so a plan of action can follow. At Leaders are Readers,  we have been supporting children through the 11+ system for over 20 years. Your child will be assessed and frank, practical but honest feedback will be shared with you on your child’s suitability. This would also be the case, throughout their time with us, should you decide  to enrol your child with us.
