What is the aim of the Five Plus Maths Fundamentals Programme?

Objectives include:

• Preparing Nursery and Reception pupils to sit the Five Plus exam
• Preparing Reception pupils to cope and even excel when in Year 1 at school
• Introducing maths to 3 to 5 year olds in a fun and enjoyable way

Topics include:

• Addition and subtraction to 20
• Number bonds to 20
• Reading and writing of number words up to 20
• Counting forwards and backwards in 1s, 2s and 3s
• Number doubles up to 10
• Addition language
• Subtraction language
• Shape, measures and data handling including 2D and 3D shapes and simple graphs
• Money: coin recognition and making up amounts
• Recognition of time and reading of o'clock and half-past
• Number sequence
• Picture sequence
• Mazes/non-verbal reasoning
