11+ Frequently Asked Questions
What is the 11+ exam?
This is an exam taken by 10 to 11 year olds in Autumn and Spring Term of Year 6 in the hope getting an offer from the selective school of their choice of a place in Year 7 in September.
I want my daughter to sit the 11+ exam in Year 6 Autumn Term 2011. When should I enrol her onto the 11+ Maths Programme?
September 2010 is the next intake. This will enable her to complete the three terms by July 2011, enabling her to be prepared for the highly competitive grammar schools' 11+ exams that autumn term, and for the independent schools' 11+ exams in January 2012.
However, she could join at any time as long as she qualifies by entry assessment. If joining in the Spring Term (Term 2), or Summer Term (Term 3), it is important that she also attends the Leaders are Readers Summer School in order to cover all work done in Term 1 and to revise in depth before starting Term 4.
My son is not sitting the 11+ exam. Will he benefit from the 11+ Maths Programme?
Absolutely. The programme deals with topics which are accessible to 10-11 year olds and should lay a firm foundation for success in maths in the Year 6 SATs and at Key Stage 3 (from Year 7) and beyond.
